About JAF . Gifts from the Private Art Collection of Judith Alexander
2023
2023 was the year of Nellie Mae Rowe — the documentary film This World Is Not My Own premiered at SXSW to glowing reviews and the extraordinary exhibition from the High Museum of Art, Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe, continued traveling with Art Bridges, introducing the nation to this marvelous work.
This year we donated twenty-six of Rowe’s works from Judith Alexander’s private collection. Each was originally purchased by Judith directly from the artist. Every institution we gave to was excited about adding a Rowe to their permanent collection — be it their first or a welcome addition to others. Working with the representatives from each of these places was a joy and we have been delighted many times over to have found such welcoming homes for these pieces.
