About JAF . Gifts from the Private Art Collection of Judith Alexander
2024
In 2024, Nellie Mae Rowe's legacy continued to rise. The High Museum of Art's exhibition Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe toured with Art Bridges, captivating new audiences, starting at The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (AL) and ending at Lehigh University Art Galleries (PA), with a stop at the California African American Museum postponed to 2025.
The documentary This World Is Not My Own also garnered acclaim at film festivals, winning awards at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Mendocino Film Festival, where it won the Jury Award for Best Documentary.
We were thrilled to donate works from Judith Alexander’s private collection—each originally purchased directly from Rowe—to esteemed museums and educational institutions across the U.S. Recipients were excited to add Rowe's work to their permanent collections, honoring Judith’s vision of bringing wider recognition to her extraordinary talent.
